Safety cabinets with self-closing doors will self-latch and self-close automatically requiring no specific reminder to the user to close the doors. When there is a need to hold the doors open, they too can be open flush with the front of the cabinet by employing the use of fusible link devices. In the case of a fire, these fusible links will melt at 165 F (74 C) allowing the doors to shut automatically.
Self-closing doors are sometimes considered the preferred choice since the human element (of remembering to close the doors) is neutralized because of the fusible link device and automatic closing feature. The self-closing style of doors is mandatory in certain states which follow the Uniform Fire Code (per UFC Article 79 Flammable and Combustible Liquids - 7902.5.9.3.2).
