Almost as soon as we invented powered vehicles, we began to modify, tweak, and redesign them for the greatest possible speed. This week at HandsOn Tools, we're stuck on land speed records: the fastest, craziest machines every piloted by human beings.
All through the week, we'll bring you tales of record-setting machines, from the 19th century to modern day. A lot goes into assembling these astounding vehicles- but not quite as much as went into building the perfect track on which to race them all.
If you've a love of speed, perhaps you want to race the Flats, yourself? Stick with us; by the end of the week, you'll know everything you need to get started.
Come back tomorrow as we check out the first blistering speed machines in the record books, capable of truly unbelievable top speeds... of forty-one miles an hour!
